This week’s Monday Huddle Up was going to be about the intentional nature of building a great college football program. That one can wait. Today, we are pivoting to the resource many of us undervalue the most. Time.
In 2022, country singer Cody Johnson had a #1 hit song titled “Til you can’t.” The theme of the song is that you can put things off, as people often do, thinking you have plenty of time to get to everything and everyone. Until you run out of time here on earth and you can’t.
Time is a resource, one that all of us, certainly me included, forget has an expiration date. An expiration date that none of us know when it’s coming.
Recently one of our favorite people in the sports tourism industry passed away at the age of 44. Corey Peterson was a bright light in our space for over two decades. He was always kind and carried a positive attitude about him, ready with a high five and a bro-hug for all of his friends. I could go on and on about Corey, however I defer to the great writing of Jason Gewirtz at the link below. Jason captured Corey brilliantly…..
The moral to the story here is to take the time to connect with the people you care about. Do the things you want to do. Reach out to those you have lost touch with. I bet they would love to hear from you.
Do it now. While you can. There may not be a tomorrow.
Pick up your phone. Make a call. Today, not later on.
Make this outreach effort a regular occurrence. Put time in your calendar to do so, just like a meeting would take place, block time for it.
Time is a precious resource. Reach out. Don’t be shy. The person on the other end of the line will be happy you did.
