Pick Six

While I was planning to take this week off from the Monday Huddle Up, something happened this past Saturday that I couldn’t ignore.

I’m the D-coordinator for our son Brock’s flag football team. This past weekend we played a team whose D-coordinator was Michael Phelps.

Yeah, that Phelps. The GOAT.

Great guy, very hospitable, coaching his oldest son Boomer’s team.

So our son Brock is our quarterback and on the second play of the game, Brock threw a dart. Unfortunately, it was to Boomer. Pick six. Ugh.

The cool thing about it all is that our son is now a social media star. Phelps posted the video of the play that was taken by one of their team’s parents. Phelps has 3.7 MILLION followers and as of Sunday morning over 10,000 of them liked the post on Instagram.

So while our son was upset about the bad play and that we eventually lost the game, we laughed about it today (his mom’s birthday).

You have to be able to laugh at yourself sometimes. Life isn’t all about wins and losses.

As I told Brock Saturday as he came off the field upset after the pick, “He buddy, it’s only one play. We have the whole game to make it up.”

While we lost last Saturday, the great thing in sports is that at some point you get to run it back.

The playoff bracket came out today. And we get to play Team Phelps again this coming weekend.

Love the way sports teaches our kids life lessons. Against the GOAT or not.
